Lasting Power of Attorney
Will my family get to decide what happens to me and my belongings if I lose my mental capacity? No, not necessarily. If it's not written down before such a time, your loved ones may not be allowed to act for you. This could include accessing your bank accounts and dealing with your finances, such as making mortgage payments. They may also not be allowed to make health care decisions for you.
A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document enabling your loved ones to act on your behalf in matters concerning your property and finance and health and welfare should you be unable to.
